1.Cycle of the Hero
Call to Adventure-
This is when Luck finds R2-D2 and realizes that R2-D2 has a message for Obi Wan Kenobi. When they find him there is a message from Princess Leia needing the help of Obi Wan Kenobi. Obi tries to convince Luke to become a Jedi. He doesn't want to, but when they go back to his house he finds out that his aunt and uncle are dead and he has nothing for him at his house. He decides to join and help Obi Wan Kenobi. There are good and evil problems here. Good is that he helps Obi when he didn’t have to. Barley knows him. But on the other hand that could be bad because he doesn’t know what he is getting himself into.

Helper-

Han Salo, R2-D2, Obi Wan Kenobi, C3P0 all helped in some ways. Han Salo helped Luke save Princess Leia and save him when he was about to get killed from Darth Vader. R2-D2 and C3PO helped Luke just by being there pretty much. Every time Luke got himself in a bind. Somehow R2-D2 or C3PO would get him out. Example: The garbage disposal incident. C3PO saved all their lives. Also, when Luke was trying to bomb the planet and got hit by Vader R2-D2 helped him by fixing the problem. Obi helped out by believing in Luke. If Obi didn’t believe then Luke would have been killed in the first fight scene. Princess Leia helped also by believe in Luke and Han. Luke and Han had a job to do. And that was to save Princess Leia. Luke was in the right spot at the right time when he met the robots. If he wasn’t then things would have turned out very differently. I don’t think there is a lot of evil in helpers. I mean aren’t helpers suppose to be all good? The good thing that came out of it that Luke meet a lot of great people that plays a big role in his life.

Threshold of Adventure-

R2-D2, Luke, Obi Wan Kenobi, and C3P0 go to the bar to meet Han Salo and his friend Chewbacca when they realize that they are a lot of alien/creatures from Darth Vader's team from the past or just plain old criminals. They realize that this is serious. This isn’t a joking matter. What they are about to do could possibly end their lives. They get Han to be their pilot only for a big price. But he ends up being a big help to saving Princess Leia and saving the planet. The good part of this is that they realize what is coming up ahead somewhat. They know that this isn’t going to be easy, but instead very hard. The evil/bad part is that something could have gone terrible wrong if Luke or Obi didn’t control their temper when they were talking to the people in the bar.

Tests-

One of the first test is trying to rescue Princess Leia. They get her out just in time, but because of the gun fight, they land in a garbage disposal. The walls start to cave in, but at the last min C3PO stop it to save their lives. The other one is when Luke and Princess Leia get split up from Chewbacca and Han. They have to fight off the army. When they are just about to go the ship they see Obi Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader fighting. Obi looks over and lets his sword down and sacrifices his life so Luke and the others can escape. You could tell that that was Obi’s plan the whole time.

Helpers-

The pilots with Luke when they went back to destroy Elddran, R2D2 when he fixed his ship when Luke got hit by Darth Vader and Han again when he came back to make sure Luke destroyed Elddran.

Triumph-

The triumph is when Luke destroys Elddran and gets rid of Darth Vader. Everyone dies in order for him to save their planet. The good part was that Luke destroyed the planet in order to save his own. But on the other hand they lost good men for something that maybe could have been dealt differently.

Flight-

The actual flight after destroying Elddran and going back to RebelBase.

Threshold Struggle-

The threshold struggle is when they get back and Luke and Han and everyone is hugged and praised on a job well done. But they soon realize that R2-D2 is badly hurt and may not make it. There is a feeling of guilt and sadness in the room. Luke always realizes that the force will be with him no matter what he goes through life. Good or bad.


Elixir-


The very last scene is when Han and Luke get awarded. They are the true hero's in the movie. I think one bad part of this is because they are getting all the glory when there were so many other people that took part in the process. Like all the pilots, R2-D2 and Obi Wan Kenobi. Also I think that this glory and praise might go to Luke’s and Han’s head. But at the same time the good thing was that they saved the planets life. I guess that’s what matters the most.

2. Literary Archetypes

Hero-

Luke SkyWalker is a hero because he stepped up to save Princess Leia and saved planet, RebelBase. Do you see anyone else stepping up and risking their life for someone he barley knows? I don’t’ think so.

Antihero-

I think the antihero is Han Salo because he doesn't want to believe in the force and all he cares about is his money in the beginning. He doesn't have hope for either "the force" or Luke. But even though he doesn't believe, he still helps out. He truly is a good person because he was the one that said “this trip is suicidal”, but at the very last minute you see him come out of nowhere and help Luke save the day.

Wise Fool-

Obi Wan Kenobi isn't really a fool. But he is wise and he knows what he is doing. He talked Luke in joining "the force" and when Luke needed help defeating Darth Vader, he was there to make sure Luke got the job done. He knew Luke could do it by always saying that the force is within him. During the fight scene with Luke trying to bomb the planet he takes his vision screen, but you here Obi Wan saying that he can do it without. Just believe.

Devil Figure-

Darth Vader is the devil figure because he turned against "the force" he wants to destroy the other planets and have his Galaxy rule. He kidnap Princess Leia so he could destroy her father’s planet. Anything he did in the movie was a bad thing. He killed Obi Wan Kenobi, and he tried killing his own son. (he just didn’t know it yet.) But in the end karma turns on him because he lost his power and he is floating in space somewhere.

Outcast-

Han Salo is really the only loner in the movie. He owed money to a lot of people and didn't really know the way. He was just going around until he found his calling. Helping Luke. He truly find the way when he said he wasn’t going to have any part of the mission to destroy Planet Elddran, but in the end he did help.
Double-

I think it is "the force". It has both good and evil. Good being Luke and saving everyone and bad being Darth Vader. Anything Darth does is bad. Another double could be Han Salo. He is evil to a certain extent. He doesn't really know his way. He owes people a lot of money and only think for himself. He took Luke, Obi Wan and the roids to save Princess Leia because he wanted the money. He wasn't going to help Luke defeat Darth Vader because it was "suicidal", but in the end he turned out to be one of the people saving the planet against Darth Vader.

Scapegoat-

I think it is Obi Wan Kenobi because he scarf iced himself so Luke and be successful. It was the scene where Darth and him were fighting and he looks over at Luke and lets his sword down and lets Darth kill him. That takes a good man to do something like that.

Temptress-

The temptress is the dark side. It's seductive and beautiful. It tempts you because you don't know what it's like and you are curious about it. It's like stealing candy. You would never think of trying it, but it tempt you because it's a bad thing. You want to know what it's like to be bad for once. It tempted Darth into becoming evil and who knows it might tempt Luke.

Good Mother-

Obviously it's Princess Leia because she takes care of Luke and Han when they are in trouble and she gives them encouragement to save the planet.

3. Tragic Man (Darth Vader)

Belief in His Own Freedom:
Darth Vader does his own thing. He doesn't care what happens in the end; as long as he gets his way we will do anything. Example is when he decide that he didn’t want to be good anymore. He joined the Dark Side. The only faith and courage I can come up with is that he only believes his way and only his way. He believes in the Dark Side.

Supreme Pride:
Darth thinks that nothing can go wrong with him. He thinks his poo doesn't stink. I think somewhat he is better than God. If there was God that they all believed in the movie. But all good things must come to an end, right?

Capacity for Suffering:
I don't think he suffers from anything. Maybe that he can't get to his goal which is destroying everyone around him because people are always trying to stop him. It is true, he has no fear of death because he knows that people are going to rebel against him and try to kill him. I think he questions his actions more that the movie portrays him. And if he knew he was trying to kill his son, Luke, it may have been a different outcome in the story.


A Sense of Commitment:
He set a goal to defeat everyone. And he will do everything in his power to get the job done. it's his way or the highway. Like when his pilots were trying to kill Luke. They couldn’t get it done and he god mad and thought he could do a better job. Wrong. Once he sets his mind to it, nothing and no one will stop him. Or so he thinks.


Vigorous Protest:
He doesn't believe that what Luke and Obi Wan are doing has anything to do with him. But when he finds out that his whole life could be in jeopardy he doest what he does best. Kill people. He can't have anyone coming in and ruining his plan. He has realize that since Obi Wan spoken to about "the force" to Luke, he needs to take "the force" down.

Transfiguration:
The only way he could have gone through a transfiguration is a different movie. From what we know he has always been a bad guy on the Dark Side. And from what the movie has told me, he will always be a bad guy.

Impact:
Darth doesn't know what he wants. He wants to have everything to himself. He made some bad choices and sooner or later he'll find out what he did that was bad. Usually you can't have the bad guy die right away. So its kind of obviously that he will be back and better than he was. What goes around comes around. Even in a sci-fi movie there will be evil all around us. And there is nothing we can do about it. No matter how hard we try.

4. Hero Traits

Luke has a lot of traits for being a hero. One of the most important one I think is selfless. He risked his life to help other people. Not a lot of people can do that. And the fact that he had no clue who Obi Wan Kenobi was when he meet him. And then he goes back to do a second mission of saving his life and everyone’s else. Also he had no clue what he was getting himself into. He could have gotten killed an instant. But it didn’t matter to him. He believe in the force. Another trait is strong. I don’t mean physical strong I mean mentally strong. He had to deal with finding out about the force and his dad. His aunt and uncle dead. Saving Princess Leia, but never doing anything like that before. Battling against Darth Vader and making sure that he believed in the force in order to win. With all those struggles it could have torn him down and seriously caused a problem in the plot. But he did his job with great force. He believe in something and he kept his guns to it. Not many people can focus on one thing and do it with problems all around them. It’s hard and can be life-threating. But he showed everyone and saved the day. Probably the last trait I think is dedicated. Luke and Obi Wan didn’t give up when they were at the bar just cause there were a few bad people there. Luke and Han didn’t give up because they had to fight for their lives to save Princess Leia. Luke didn’t have to save the planet, but he did even though he could have gotten killed. Han thought the opposite at first, but in the end he helped save the day. Luke didn’t have to do the things he did. But he did them anyway because he knew what was important to him. To help save people. He was dedicated to his work.

5. Theme Possibility

I think the theme of the movie is adventure. There are so many adventure in the movie. Probably one of the first one is Luke going with Obi to Elddran. He had no clue what he was getting himself into. When they were at the bar he could have backed out, but he didn’t he stayed. Probably one of the biggest adventures was saving Princess Leia. Another big one is destroying Planet Elddran. Out of all he could do with his life he comes across this one. The destroying planets, saving princesses, and finding his way. Adventure is all around us. We just have to make one to fine one. And that’s exactly what Luke did. He could have not gone with Obi Wan Kenobi because he was scared, but no. He step up and did his part. Adventure doesn’t have to be big. All that matters is that you did it because you wanted to, not because anyone else wanted to.

Hero and Theme Possibilities

Hero qualities:
When I think of a hero I think of being selfless. Not selfish in anyway. Doing what's best. Also independent. They can do things on their own and they don't need people to help them. Another one is strong. Whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual. Heros don't have to be big and buff to be a hero. Also a big one is pride. They take pride in what they do and they don't care what people think. Also, another one is bravery. Whether it's putting your life on the line or just sticking up for people that are smaller than them. When I think of hero I think of firefighter or solider. They are the ones that risk their lives and are strong and have pride in what they do. A hero is someone you can look up to no matter what your problem is and that they will always be there for you. It doesn't have to be a big strong man. It could be your mom, brother, grandma etc.

Theme Possibilities:
One theme could be bravery. There is a lot of bravery going on in the movie. With Luke stepping up and helping save Princess Leia to saving his planet, Rebel Base. Also with Luke is Han Salo. He didn't believe in what Luke was doing. He didn't want to risk his life for something that didn't matter to him. But in the end he did. Also Obi Wan had a lot of bravery. To die for Luke so he could get out alive took a lot of bravery.
Another one could be Death and Resurrection. Obi Wan died for Luke and then at the end he came back and helped Luke to save and win against Darth Vader. He came back in his thoughts.
The last one theme I thought would be adventure. The whole movie your guessing what is going to happen next. You don't know what is going to happen and that is the thrill of the movie. Everywhere you look is an adventure. The flight to save Princess Leia. Saving Princess Leia and the death of Obi Wan. Again, you had the flight back to Elddran to blow up the planet. The actual bombing of the planet. You don't know if it will actually happen. It makes you sit at the tip of your chair just waiting for more. And at the end they leave it on the edge. Making you think about what is going to happen. Making you wanting to watch the next movie.
